Greetings Southeast Region! My name is Semone Barnes, and I am honored to serve as the 2010-2011 Southeast Regional Chair. Whether you are a returning member, sponsor, or a new addition to the region, it is with great privilege and excitement to welcome back everyone to another exciting year with the National Society of Minorities in Hospitality (NSMH). 2009-2010 was a great year for the Southeast. We hosted the organization’s first ever joint conference between the South and Southeast regions in Atlanta, Georgia. The conference boasted nearly 136 members, with the Southeast contributing close to 80 attendees! The South/Southeast Regional Conference set yet another precedent by welcoming, in full attendance, the entire National Board. This allowed members and sponsors from both regions the opportunity to meet and interact with the Board. I am proud to say that this year our 2010 Regional Conference will, again, be a joint conference between the South and Southeast. It will be held in the beautiful city of Charlotte, North Carolina, November 5th-7th at the Great Wolf Lodge. Call 1-866-944-9653 for Reservations. Please reserve your rooms no later than October 12th to receive the NSMH discounted rate of $99. As an added bonus, you will receive complimentary tickets for the hotel’s indoor water park, which will be used during the ending celebration for the conference! Additionally, be sure to register for the conference by logging onto the NSMH portal at nsmh.org/portal no later than October 29th to receive the discounted rate of $50. Please note, after this deadline, you will need to register onsite at the rate of $65, so be sure to get registered by the deadline!
The Southeast’s success was further heightened during the 2010 NSMH National Conference in Indianapolis. We managed to redeem ourself during the Hospitality Olympics festivities, by placing second overall! I am certain that we will play it C.O.O.L and “Create Our Own Legacy” at this year’s National Conference in February. As the Southeast Regional Chair, my role is not to burden you with needless tasks, but to act as your confidant and teammate. I am certain that the 2010-2011 school year will be marked by many more successes for the Southeast Region. I am, without a doubt, excited and anxious to embark on this journey.
