Emily Thompson - NSMH

Emily Thompson
2017-2018 Southeast Regional Chair
Chapter: Northern Arizona University (NAU)

WEST COAST, BEST COAST!

Hello,

My name is Emily Thompson and I am thrilled and honored to serve as the 2017-2018 Western Regional Chair. I am a senior at Northern Arizona University (NAU), studying Hotel/Restaurant Management.

I joined NSMH my freshman year at NAU as a way to make friends. I was an out of state student, struggling to make friends and find my way around college. Immediately, I was welcomed in by the NSMH family and I have been able to take on the roles of Treasurer, Vice President, and President for my chapter. My personal and professional development has grown immensely due to this incredible organization.

My goal this year is to help all chapters in the Western Region accelerate to be the best they can be. I can’t wait to meet all the members of the best region, from our first year to our fourth year members. I am excited to continue growing the best region, connecting members, and expanding our professional networks.

Mark your calendars for the 29th National Conference to be held in the windy city of Chicago, IL at the Hilton Chicago, February 15th-18th, 2018.

I am also excited to announce that this year’s Western Regional Conference will be held in Anaheim, CA from November 3-5th, 2017.

The host hotel for the conference will be the Doubletree by Hilton Anaheim-Orange County.  Reserve your room no later than October 16, 2017 to get the discounted rate of $119 per night.  Register for the NSMH Western Regional conference via the NSMH portal at nsmh.org/portal for $60 by October 20, 2017.  After October 20 the price will be $75. I can’t wait to see you all there!

Please do not hesitate to reach out to me with any questions, concerns, or suggestions for this upcoming school year!

With NSMH pride,

Emily Thompson
2017-18 Western Regional Chair

Brittany Parker
2018-2019 Southern Regional Chair
National Society of Minorities in Hospitality
Chapter: Bethune- Cookman University

Hello Strong South!

My name is Brittany Parker, I am proud and thrilled to serve you as your 2018- 2019 NSMH Southern Regional Chair. I am a junior at the great Bethune- Cookman University majoring in Hospitality Management. I joined NSMH my freshmen year when I attended regionals and instantaneously fell in love with the organization. I saw young people who looked like me, taking charge. I immediately took initiative and told my chapter president,  “I will be a leader in this organization.” As an active chapter ambassador, I recruited high school students, delivered invocations, acted as the master of ceremonies, and volunteered in numerous events. I want to use that same persistent energy to producea vibrant and successful southern region.

As your Southern Regional Chair, I am here for you and your chapter’s growth within NSMH. I want you all to thrive and be dominant leaders in the hospitality industry. It is essential for your Chapter to take initiative this year and participate in all NSMH events and activities. I am very eager to see your chapter at our East Coast Regional Conference.  The conference will be held on the campus of Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. Your attendance at Regionals means a lot to mem and will prepare the spirit of the Strong South to be able to continue on at the National Conference in Atlanta, GA.

I  cannot wait to see your chapter at  the 30th Anniversary NSMH National Conference and Career Fair.  The theme of the conference is “30 Years! Celebrating the Past, Treasuring the Present, and Shaping Our Future” The conference will be hosted at the Hilton Atlanta in Atlanta, Georgia. It will definitely be a memorable experience!

I look forward to working with you all, and meeting you at the conferences. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free contact me.

Hospitably,

Brittany Parker

Vernajh Pinder
2018-2019 Southeast Regional Chair
Chapter: University of Maryland Eastern Shore

Greetings Southeast,

My name is Vernajh Pinder,  and I am a senior at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. It is my pleasure to serve as your 2018-2019 Southeast Regional Chair. Time and time again our region has shown up and shown out. I would like nothing more than to continue our regions legacy, of being a trailblazer while ensuring that each and every one of you gets the tools you need to succeed.

My Journey with NSMH begun two years ago and  after leaving my first regional conference I had this unexplainable yearning to do more in this organization. I came into NSMH as a shy timid college freshman and I have seen myself grow tremendously. That growth would not have been possible without this organization. This organization has become part of me and I hope you'll allow me to share that piece with you. NSMH will continue to ensure your growth and development through its enriching programs and the opportunities it provides.

As NSMH celebrates its 30th anniversary, we have created a unique year! We will only have two regional conferences. The East Coast will host a Regional Conference at Cornell University, were our organization was founded, on October 11th to the 14th. The second conference will be hosted by the West Coast at University of Denver on October 18th to the 21st. These will be historical events to attend and an amazing opportunity to connect with different regions in a smaller scale than the National Conference. These summits are a great opportunity to network with industry partners, and grow as an individual in this diverse industry. For information about the Regional Summits, including how to support and attend, please email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Are you ready to embark on this journey as we celebrate 30 years of excellence? Today we are students, but tomorrow we will be leaders! I look forward to meeting each of you at our conferences this year. I want this to be a year of personal and professional growth for each of you as we strive for excellence. Don't hesitate to reach out to me for anything that you need. I am confident that this will be a remarkable year.

Best Regards,

Vernajh Pinder

Alanis Morales Cuadrado
2018-2019 Midwest Regional Chair
Chapter: Iowa State University

Welcome Midwest,

My name is Alanis Morales Cuadrado, your 2018-2019 Midwest Regional Chair and a rising senior at Iowa State University. I am thrilled to work with such amazing chapters in the Mighty Midwest!

I have been a part of NSMH for two years now, where I have been able to develop inspiring relationships and expand my opportunities in the hospitality field. I attended my first National Conference in Jacksonville, Florida. It was an exciting experience to meet many passionate students that are looking to advance their presence and education in this industry. Being able to be a part of this conference, it persuaded me to be committed to not only to the growth of my chapter but NSMH as an organization at a national level.

As NSMH celebrates its 30th anniversary, we have created a unique year! We will only have two regional conferences. The East Coast will host a Regional Conference at Cornell University on October 11th to the 14th. The second conference will be hosted by the West Coast at University of Denver on October 18th to the 21st. These will be historical events to attend and an amazing opportunity to connect with different regions in a smaller scale than the National Conference. These conferences are a great opportunity to network with industry partners, and grow as an individual in this diverse industry. For information about the Regional Conferences, including how to support and attend, please email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

I look forward to meeting all the newly inspired members and reconnecting with returning members.  Start planning to celebrate with us the 30th National Conference, which will be held in Atlanta, GA at the Hilton Atlanta on February 14th - February 17th, 2018.

I cannot wait to work with each chapter personally, so we can advance and achieve the goals we will set together.

Sincerely,

Alanis Morales Cuadrado
