
NSMH Hospitality Challenge Returns for Its Second Competition
What is the NSMH Hospitality Challenge?
The NSMH Hospitality Challenge returns for its second competition, building on the success of last year’s inaugural event. Congratulations to last year’s winning teams from Monroe University, University of Denver, and Bethune Cookman University, whose innovative solution earned top honors.
This premier competition showcases the talent, creativity, and problem-solving skills of hospitality students. Teams of three to four participants from each NSMH chapter will tackle real-world challenges facing the hospitality industry and develop solutions that can help shape its future.
Why Participate?
- Scholarship Awards: The top three teams will receive scholarship prizes.
- Conference Participation: All teams and team members must attend NSMH’s Fall Conference in Atlanta. The top five teams will present their solutions live on Friday, October 2, 2026.
- Skill Development: Gain experience in problem-solving, teamwork, and presentation skills.
- Networking Opportunities: Connect with industry professionals and fellow students who share your passion for hospitality.
- National Recognition: Showcase your talent and creativity on a national stage.
Competition Details:
- Team Composition: Each team should consist of three to four participants.
- Team Attendance: All registered teams and team members must be present at the Fall Conference in Atlanta.
- Participant Work Requirement: All competition work must be completed by the registered team members. Advisors may coach, guide, and provide feedback, but they may not contribute to the development or completion of the team’s work.
- Submission Deadline: Teams must submit their presentation deck by September 27, 2026.
- Challenge Focus: Teams will respond to the following question:
Hospitality employees often face unpredictable schedules, staffing shortages, emotional demands, and limited recovery time. What can hospitality organizations do to reduce employee burnout and build a healthier, more sustainable workplace while maintaining service quality and financial performance?
- Presentation Round: The top five teams will present live at the Fall Conference, with a 10-minute pitch followed by a 5-minute Q&A.
